Physical Training in Heat 2022

In light of the recent announcements by the met office we have developed a heat policy in the interest of health and safety at Elemental Fitness Ltd.
Using advice provided by the national weather service please see details below.

Under 25.9 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit)
Whilst temperatures approaching 25.9 degrees Celsius can be uncomfortable for many training will continue as normal.
Personal training instructors are advised to continue their programmes as outlined from inductions and/or 6 week reviews based on individual requirements. Please note, company terms and conditions will apply regarding cancellations and reschedules of personal training sessions.
Group classes will continue as normal. Please note, company terms and conditions will apply regarding cancellations and reschedules of group sessions.
26 - 31.9 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit)
Whilst temperatures approaching 31.9 degrees Celsius can be uncomfortable for many training will continue as normal. Caution should be taken.
Personal training instructors are advised to continue their programmes as outlined from inductions and/or 6 week reviews based on individual requirements. Programmes will be amended to lower intensity work outs under the instructors professional opinion. More frequent water breaks will be advised. Please note, company terms and conditions will apply regarding cancellations and reschedules of personal training sessions.

32 - 39.9 degrees Celsius (103 degrees Fahrenheit)
Temperatures approaching 39 degrees Celsius come with increased risk of heat stroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion therefore extreme caution should be taken.
Personal training instructors are advised to continue their programmes as outlined from inductions and/or 6 week reviews based on individual requirements. Programmes will be amended to lower intensity work outs focused on mobility, flexibility, core work, technical training and resistance based training. Removal of high intensity cardio, fartlek/speed training, plyometric, high intensity kickboxing training, circuit training and boot camps will be removed individual programmes. More frequent water breaks will be advised. Please note, company terms and conditions will apply regarding cancellations and reschedules for personal training sessions however flexibility will be given on a case by case basis at request.

40 degrees Celsius and above (104 degrees Fahrenheit)
Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius become a risk factor for many and the facilities will be closed during times of high heat when necessary.
Temperatures between 40 and 51 degrees Celsius come with risk of heat stroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are becoming likely.
Clients of Elemental Fitness Ltd will be contacted and advised not to train if it the facility is above 40 degrees Celsius during their visit.
Group classes will be cancelled via the app. Decisions will be made on by 12.30pm on that day.
Humidity
Humidity is another important factor that will influence how warm you feel. Humidity between 30% and 55% is considered the ideal range for humans to feel comfortable at. Humidity between 55% and 65% will begin to feel sticky.
In terms of training, there is no specific upper limit, however if humidity levels go above 65% this could increase your risk of heat stroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion therefore extreme caution should be taken as exercise will exacerbate that. As the humidity or the moisture content in the air increases, sweat does not evaporate as readily. Sweat evaporation stops entirely when the relative humidity reaches about 90%. Under these circumstances, the body temperature rises and may cause illness.
Therefore, in the interest of safety, regardless of temperature if the relative humidity of the facility goes beyond 65% personal training and group classes will likely be cancelled.
What do you need to do
We recommend members listen to how their bodies feel, bring cold water (or water is readily available in our fridge as usual), a towel, wet flannel and/or water spray bottle would also be beneficial in keeping you cool whilst you exercise.
Personal training clients will be contacted via phone or text the evening before or morning of their session if there are any changes to the schedule due to heat. If you choose to cancel your personal training session due to high heat you can contact us via usual means.
Group class members will be informed via the app by 12.30pm on the day of their session. If you choose to cancel your group class due to high heat you can make arrangements via the app as normal.
Subcontractors
Whilst subcontractors run independently and follow their own procedures, when working for Elemental Fitness Ltd with Elemental Fitness Ltd clients the same procedures will be followed in the interest of client safety.
Arrangements where subcontractors use the facilities to train with clients of their own business, it the the responsibilities of the trainer to ensure they practice responsibly, Elemental Fitness takes no responsibilities for independent work carried out.
