Highlights from the Squad Training Session – September 21, 2024
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, our squad training session brought together enthusiastic fighters eager to prepare for upcoming competitions. This session was particularly special as we focused on forming our first team to compete at the WKO, Barnsley, laying the groundwork for future success.
Building Our Competition Team
A significant part of the session involved discussing the different categories of competition and encouraging everyone to sign up for the team. It was inspiring to see the interest and commitment from our squad members, each eager to represent Elemental Kickboxing Leeds on the competitive stage. Creating our first official team since 2020 is a crucial step in fostering a competitive spirit and helping our competitors grow.
Standard Drills with a Twist
The main focus of the lesson revolved around standard drills, but we introduced an exciting element by randomly calling pairs of students into the ring. This approach was designed to mimic real competition conditions, where fighters often have little notice before stepping into the spotlight. By practicing under these circumstances, our athletes gained valuable experience and improved their ability to adapt quickly, a crucial skill in any match.
Individual Game Plans
In addition to the drills, we delved into the importance of having individual game plans when stepping into the ring. Each fighter discussed their strengths and how they might approach different opponents. Understanding what works best for them and strategizing against specific fighters can make a significant difference in performance. By tailoring their tactics to their unique skills and the styles of others, our fighters can enhance their chances of success in competition.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, the excitement builds for our upcoming competition at WKO, Barnsley. The dedication and hard work displayed during this training session laid a solid foundation for our squad. We encourage everyone to keep refining their skills, developing their strategies, and, most importantly, supporting one another as we prepare for this new challenge.
Our squad training sessions are more than just a time to drill techniques; they are opportunities to foster teamwork, resilience, and individual growth. With our first team forming and a clear focus on competition, we are on the path to achieving great things together. Keep up the great work, and let’s bring our best to Barnsley!
